Early Life:

Born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Ritu Karidhal developed an early fascination with the mysteries of the universe and the vast potential of space exploration. Her parents, both teachers, nurtured her curiosity and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Karidhal excelled academically and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Lucknow University. She followed this with a Master’s degree in Physics from the same institution.

Career:

Karidhal’s journey into the world of space exploration began when she joined the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1997. Starting as a young scientist, she quickly displayed exceptional talent and dedication. Her expertise lies in spacecraft navigation and mission design, which are critical aspects of any space mission. Karidhal’s contributions to navigation and control for various satellite missions have been invaluable to ISRO’s success.

One of the most significant milestones in Ritu Karidhal’s career came when she served as the Deputy Operations Director for India’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as Mangalyaan. Launched in November 2013, the mission aimed to place a spacecraft in the orbit of Mars, making India the first Asian country to achieve this feat. Karidhal played a pivotal role in navigating the spacecraft through the complex journey, ensuring its successful insertion into Mars’ orbit in September 2014. She supervised the Chandrayaan -2 mission as the mission director.

Chandrayaan -3, the most ambitious mission of the Indian space Research Oraganisation was launched on, 14th July of this year 2023, around 2:35 pm from Satish Dhawan Space center in Sriharikota, India. Ritu Karidhal Srivastav, who is called the Rocket woman of India is leading the mission.
